Cardiac Care Network of Ontario

An organization that works with hospitals to provide cardiac services across the province and acts as a support system to the MoH. Responsible for maintaining and reporting on the provincial cardiac wait list registry for all patients waiting for selected adult advanced cardiac procedures in Ontario; released document entitled “Standards for the Provision of Echocardiography in Ontario” in January 2012

DIR

Diagnostic Image Repository

An e-health tool that stores and enables physicians to access images of various diagnostic tests conducted on patients in the past; OAC wants to be engaged in developing a province-wide DIR on behalf of its members


eHealth Ontario

Established by the provincial government in September 2008 as an independent agency of the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Tasked with enabling physicians and health care providers to establish and maintain electronic health records (EHRs) for all of Ontario’s 13 million residents

A digital version of a paper chart that contains all of a patient’s medical history from one practice


HRM

Hospital Report Manager

An e-health tool developed by OntarioMD for clinicians who have adopted a Funding Eligible EMRs. HRM provides the functionality to receive hospital reports electronically from hospitals or Independent Health Facilities (IHFs)


ICES

Institute for Clinical and Evaluative Studies

An independent, non-profit organization funded by the MoH that uses population-based health information to produce knowledge on a broad range of health care issues; reviewed the Standards for the Provision of Echocardiography in Ontario document and concluded that it would save the Ontario government $44 million annually if implemented
