New Imaging Technology Expands Options for Complex Cardiac Procedures
A recent article highlights how cardiologists at Southlake Health are using a new four-dimensional intracardiac echocardiography (4D ICE) catheter to guide complex heart procedures. The technology provides real-time, high-resolution images from within the heart, allowing physicians to visualize cardiac structures during minimally invasive interventions.
Because the device has not yet received full regulatory approval in Canada, Southlake obtained special authorization from Health Canada to use the technology in selected patients. In the case described, the imaging system helped guide a minimally invasive repair of severe tricuspid valve regurgitation in a patient who was not a candidate for surgery.
