Dr. Heather Ross Brings Portable Heart-Failure Care to Northern Communities

Dr. Heather Ross Brings Portable Heart-Failure Care to Northern Communities

May 24, 2026

A recent feature published by BarrieToday profiles Dr. Heather Ross of UHN’s Peter Munk Cardiac Centre and her work to improve access to specialized cardiac care in remote Northern Ontario communities. Dr. Ross and her team have assembled a portable “hospital in a Pelican case” containing compact diagnostic tools such as a blood analyzer, digital stethoscope, electrocardiogram and portable ultrasound. Combined with virtual care and remote monitoring, the initiative allows patients with heart failure to receive more comprehensive assessment and follow-up closer to home.
