OAC Advocacy Supports Improvements in Cardiovascular Care
Important changes to Ontario’s Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services came into effect on April 1, 2026, including enhancements to cardiology consultations, patient assessments and selected specialized cardiac procedures.
These changes reflect extensive advocacy by the Ontario Association of Cardiologists to better recognize the evolving nature of cardiovascular care, the complexity of patient needs and advances in cardiac diagnostics and treatment.
Building on this work, the OAC has developed and advanced further proposals for changes targeted for April 1, 2027. These include initiatives addressing complex coronary interventions and other specialized cardiovascular procedures, with a focus on ensuring that Ontario’s healthcare system continues to recognize advances in clinical practice and the resources required to deliver high-quality cardiac care.
While these additional proposals remain under review, they represent an important part of the OAC’s ongoing efforts to support accessible, comprehensive cardiovascular services for patients across Ontario.
