New Canadian Guideline Connects Heart, Brain and Mental Health Care

New Canadian Guideline Connects Heart, Brain and Mental Health Care

March 30, 2026

A recent article from News-Medical highlights Canada’s first clinical practice guideline addressing the interconnected management of heart, brain and mental health conditions. Dr. Peter Liu, a cardiologist at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and Scientific Director of the Brain–Heart Interconnectome, was among the Ontario researchers involved in developing the guideline. Published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, the recommendations encourage clinicians to consider cardiovascular, neurological and mental health conditions together rather than treating them in isolation.
