Ontario Expands Public Funding for Key Cardiovascular Tests

Ontario Expands Public Funding for Key Cardiovascular Tests

June 15, 2026

A recent Heart & Stroke article highlights Ontario’s expansion of publicly funded access to natriuretic peptide and lipoprotein(a) testing. Dr. Husam Abdel-Qadir, a cardiologist at Women’s College Hospital and University Health Network, explains that natriuretic peptide testing can help clinicians identify heart failure earlier, guide timely treatment and reduce avoidable hospital visits. He also notes that public funding can help address gaps in access and improve health equity by making these important cardiovascular tests more widely available in community settings.
