Upgraded website launch

Today, the OAC launched their upgraded website to ensure it better serves the needs of our members and the Ontario Public. The recent provincial election has put Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals in power for another 4 years and given the state of the Ontario economy and the deficit, they will be looking to cut operating costs and increase revenues. There is a strong chance the decisions they make will impact cardiac care. In 2012 the Liberal government through an Order in Council, changed the definition of Self Referral in the province and Ontario. Cardiologists, through the OAC were forced to speak (without OMA approval) against this policy because of the negative impact it would have had on cardiac care in Ontario. The definition of self referral for cardiac non invasive testing was changed, but other proposed cuts to cardiac care from the new government most likely will come our way in the near future. There is more work that must be done NOW to deal with this issue effectively. We want to ensure our membership, the public and the media have a one-stop site to learn about the ongoing issues that will affect the continued availability of world-class cardiac care in Ontario. The OAC wants to be part of the open dialogue offered recently by Kathleen Wynne’s government to ensure cardiac care in Ontario remains of the highest quality. More detailed information is available on both the public facing and OAC members sides of our site.
