OAC Launches Congestive Heart Failure Initiative

OAC Launches Congestive Heart Failure Initiative

September 25, 2015

Congestive heart failure is at epidemic proportions in Canada and the story told by the numbers is very depressing.

  • Approximately 500,000 people in Canada are affected.
  • It is the #1 reason people go to emergency rooms in hospitals
  • It accounts for $3 billion in health care expenditures.
  • Life expectancy after a diagnosis of congestive heart failure is a mere 2.1 years

There is no current cure but lives can be made easier and extended through proper cardiac care. If things are left to bumble along in an environment run by cost-cutting accountants and intellectual theorists, many will die before their time.

OAC Board members Dr. Heather Ross and Dr. Mike Hartleib were recently interviewed on the challenges CHF poses and the OAC’s plan, known as the CHF Regional Hubs Initiative, for addressing them. To read more about our CHF Regional Hubs Initiative, please visit Media Planet – Personal Health News.

Our website includes a petition that we ask all Ontarians to comment on and sign. The Ontario Association of Cardiologists encourages everyone to learn more and express their support for the OAC’s plan which can save lives and save badly needed health care dollars.
