Response to G&M Article

Response to G&M Article

September 22, 2015

On September 22, 2015, André Picard of the Globe & Mail discussed topics affecting Ontario’s Cardiologists in the article “Patients the losers in doctor dispute.” Our official response to this article is below:

In 10 days the latest cuts to Ontario healthcare come into effect, compliments of the Wynne government. This is on top of their unilateral cuts imposed in January. Funding for non-invasive cardiac tests will soon be slashed by an aggregate 25%. As a result of the Liberal government and the Ontario Medical Association not reaching a negotiated physician services agreement last year, we are now facing healthcare chaos.

This disturbing situation comes directly from the Wynne government’s health transformation playbook that was concocted by ivory-tower, think-tank consultants led by Will Falk. The approach is to shake up the healthcare system by disrupting clinical models through physician compensation cuts – and then see what happens.

The OAC, which represents the majority of cardiologists in Ontario does not believe experiments in cost cutting should be conducted at the risk of a single person’s health and we protest strongly.
